Changing your GP (fastlege) in Drammen takes about three minutes on Helsenorge.no. You need BankID, and the change takes effect from the 1st of the next month. Here is the full process — plus answers to the most common questions.
Who can change GP?
Everyone registered in Norway has the right to a GP, and you can change up to two times per calendar year. You can choose any GP in the country, but most people prefer one close to home or work. If you live in Drammen or nearby, Hotvet legesenter opens June 2026 at Rosenkrantzgata 75.
How to change GP in three minutes
- Log in to Helsenorge.no with BankID, BankID on mobile, Buypass or Commfides.
- Go to "Change GP" under My health → GP.
- Search for a GP. You can search by name, clinic or municipality. Try "Hotvet legesenter" or "Drammen".
- Pick an available GP and press "Change GP". Only GPs with open slots can be selected.
- Confirm the change. You will get a confirmation on Helsenorge and by email. Your new GP relationship officially starts the 1st of the following month.
If you change your GP on 5 May, you will be registered with your new GP from 1 June. Until then, you still use your current GP for appointments, prescriptions and sick notes.
What happens to your medical records?
In Norway, you as the patient need to ask your previous GP to transfer the medical records to your new GP. The new GP cannot request the records on your behalf — the request must come from you directly to the previous clinic.
Contact your previous GP's office (by phone, e-consultation or in writing) and ask them to send the records to Hotvet legesenter once your new GP relationship starts.
Important: you cannot book an appointment with the new GP until the new relationship is active — that is, from the 1st of the following month. In the meantime, continue to use your current GP for anything you need.
When should you consider changing?
The most common reasons people change their GP:
- Long wait times — it takes weeks to get an appointment.
- Moving — your current GP is too far from your new home.
- Communication — you want a doctor who listens and takes time with you.
- Accessibility — you want a GP who responds quickly to e-consultations.
- Continuity — you want the same doctor over time.
Why choose Hotvet legesenter?
We open with a short waiting list and short wait times because the patient list builds up gradually. Early patients get unhurried consultations, a brand-new clinic at Rosenkrantzgata 75, and a modern records system with e-consultation and online booking.
We see each patient as a whole person, not a diagnosis — three words guide us: safety, trust, care.
